GREAT MEN: YOU TOO CAN BE GREAT
Greatness is more like there
might never be one like Nelson Mandela, a pop star like Michael Jackson. People
are attracted to virtues not vices, although they put up attitude for a while,
but won’t last longer. We’ve gotten to the age of revolution, everyone has
skills to exhibit, speech to make, ideas to further, etc. There
was a time when Dubai was like the Kalahari forest. Today, it hosts the world’s
tallest hotel; it’s actually one’s man idea.
There are times when we live in fear in expectation of hope, its like we are too afraid to try. Its' not like nobody has not thought about it,
but no other has succeeded in making that idea become a reality. Africa is
enjoying enormous population, natural resources, able bodied men, beautiful
cultural heritage and our rights. What is wrong with us then?
Political negotiations have tamed our minds to
believing life isn’t smooth without conflicts. I am dreaming of becoming the
next Oprah Winfrey, but still I’m going through a different route. I still
don’t know how to get out and be free; it’s like waiting for someone to get me
out of here. Life itself depends on inter relationship; not in isolation; not
in fears anymore; a little bit of insecurity; but still in confidence.
A little difference comes when
something new is experienced; a writer once said “a civilization that proves
incapable of solving the problems it creates is a decadent civilization”. We
are now capable of cloning; enough to tell how far we’ve gone in civilization. Africa’s
picturesque is best in its unique cultures notwithstanding the various
diversity.
Even our colonial masters shaped human existence, though there was
injustice in their reign but, they introduced western values like education and
other western revolution. Today we celebrate the likes
of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Dr. Dora Akiyuli, Dr. Bimbo Adekoya e.t.c. We
appreciate their lives and works towards a better future and a unified nation.
Look past your fears and believe that its' you every other is waiting
for to fight for human injustice; help to keep the country safe and eradicate
illegal drugs; enlightened minds on sickness and disease killing people etc. Be
good irrespective of how many people are doing otherwise. They say if you can’t
beat them, you join. That’s a lie. You should rather ignore them or pretend to
be like them till you make the changes.
